Menashe and Dvoshe Chrabolowski's Home
Menashe Chrabolowski’s “front house” facing the street: The person standing in front of the stoop, M. Witkowski, rented his store from Menashe’s family (Menashe died in 1916). M. Witkowski took most of the Bielsk postcard photos dated 1933. The 1917 wedding picture (of Gittel Chrabolowska and Benjamin Szuszyski) was taken in front of the “back house” which was oriented perpendicular to the front house. A separate building in the rear housed the meat store, and there were various out-buildings and sheds. The Kosher sign is over an alleyway that went to the rear area including the meat store. Mark Gordon has a diagram he drew from discussions with both Libby Uzycka Elson and Bertha Chrabolowska Shaiken. Menashe and Dvoshe Chrabolowski's front house (Mickiewicza 69 - old numbering system) was located on the west side of the street. Note the “kosher” and “----ski” at the left. Mickiewicza 69 was destroyed in 1944 as a result of aerial bombing. (Picture taken about 1933)
